Hyaluronic acid at Olive Young: what six labels actually disclose

Stand in front of the hydration shelf in a Korean drugstore and you will notice the boxes are competing on a count. Five forms, eight forms, thirteen forms, each one presented as if more species of the same ingredient must mean more hydration.

The count is the part that is easy to print and almost impossible to check. Which of the five, at what weight, at what level, doing what, is a question the box never answers.

There is one thing on these labels that is checkable, and only a minority of brands supply it: an actual concentration. So we sorted six of the most widely stocked hydration products by that, and the ranking that came out is not the ranking the marketing implies.

Why the count is not the useful number

Molecular weight genuinely does change where a hyaluronate sits. Large and crosslinked forms hold water in a film on the surface. Small hydrolyzed fragments diffuse a little way into the outer skin. That difference is real.

What it does not do is reach living tissue. No topical hyaluronate of any size crosses the outer skin into the dermis from a leave on water phase, so any claim built on depth is describing a destination the mechanism does not reach.

More to the point, a product can carry eight forms where one is at a working level and the other seven are printed in parts per billion. The count says eight. The formula says one. Only the disclosed concentration tells you which situation you are in.

None of this makes hyaluronic acid a weak ingredient. Surface hydration from humectants is among the best established effects in skincare. It just means the number on the front of the box is the wrong number to shop on.

The clearest disclosure: THE LAB by blanc doux Oligo Deep Toner

One hyaluronate species, one printed concentration, and that is the entire argument for it.

At a specific stated level, this is the only product on the page where you can size the headline ingredient without guessing. Around it sit beta glucan, betaine, panthenol, sorbitol, acetyl glucosamine and glucuronic acid, which is a broad humectant deck doing real work alongside it.

No fragrance, no acid, no occlusive. The brand's language about reaching deep into skin outruns what one hyaluronate at that level with no stated molecular weight can support, and the sensory promise underneath it is well grounded.

Forms: one Concentration disclosed: yes, on the only species Fragrance-free: yes

The best documented multi form: Torriden DIVE IN Toner

Product photo of DIVE IN Toner

Five hyaluronate species, with one of them disclosed. Partial disclosure is better than the category norm and still leaves four of five unsized.

The support cast is what actually separates it from its rivals: allantoin and panthenol sit high, and there is no acid or ferment competing for attention. It is a plain, fast drying hydration layer with a soothing lean.

Its published testing is a mixed picture worth stating plainly. A human repeat insult patch test returning non irritant on fifty subjects over six weeks is a conservative design and a genuine result, even though the testing body is unnamed. The efficacy figures beside it, for moisture and sebum and smoothness, were measured immediately after application on twenty to twenty two people with no control arm, which is a measurement of a wet surface rather than a durable effect.

Forms: five Concentration disclosed: one of five Fragrance-free: yes

The largest count, the thinnest paper trail: Isntree Ultra Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Toner

The most forms of anything here, and the least support for saying so.

The brand's own site does not publish an ingredient list at all. Its disclosure module exists in the page template and is switched off. The list we read came from a community ingredient database upload, not cross checked against the current label, and even that source's own blurb counts one more form than its own list names.

So the thirteen count is the best available information rather than a confirmed fact, and no concentration accompanies any of them.

What the list does show, if it is accurate, is a genuinely broad hyaluronate spread with sea water, glycols, allantoin and panthenol and no acid, oil or occlusive anywhere. The marketing promise of hydration within seconds is consistent with that. The twenty four hour retention claim is not, since nothing on the list slows water leaving.

Forms: thirteen, on a single unverified source Concentration disclosed: none Fragrance-free: yes, per the same source

The serum version: Torriden DIVE IN Serum

Product photo of DIVE IN Serum

The same five species as the toner in a slightly denser base, with one concentration disclosed, plus panthenol, allantoin and a small ceramide and cholesterol pairing.

There is no oil, wax or heavy occlusive on the list, which is why the brand's own long duration hydration marketing sits awkwardly on it. Functionally this is the hydration step, not the sealing step, and dry skin needs a cream over it for the effect to survive the afternoon.

If you already use the toner, understand that adding this serum mostly adds more of the same function rather than a new one. Whether that is worth a second product depends on how dry your skin gets between steps.

Forms: five Concentration disclosed: one of five Fragrance-free: yes

Where the count and the formula separate: Wellage Real Hyaluronic Blue 100 Ampoule

Product photo of Real Hyaluronic Blue 100 Ampoule

The clearest illustration on this page of why counting is the wrong sport.

Seven hyaluronate family entries appear on a fifty four ingredient list. One of them, sodium hyaluronate, sits at a stated level that means something. The other six are printed at trace amounts several orders of magnitude below it, and the brand's own framing of the complex counts higher still than seven.

None of which makes it a poor ampoule. One well dosed hyaluronate in a large bottle of water and humectants is a perfectly good hydration step, and it carries a registered wrinkle improvement notice on the strength of adenosine, which is a regulatory fact rather than a marketing one.

It just means the complex is the name and the single dosed entry is the mechanism, and knowing which is which changes what you expect from the bottle rather than whether to own it.

Forms: seven, one at a working level Concentration disclosed: yes, on the one that matters Fragrance-free: yes

The one with a second story: ANUA PDRN Hyaluronic Acid Capsule 100 Serum

A fragrance-free dropper serum pairing a multi form hyaluronic acid complex with sodium DNA, the ingredient sold as PDRN.

The disclosure here is useful and slightly deflating. PDRN sits at a trace level, so the hyaluronate family is the larger measurable share of what you are buying, despite PDRN leading the product name.

Its strongest credential is not a claim at all. It carries a government reviewed dual functional registration for brightening and wrinkle improvement, with niacinamide and adenosine as the qualifying actives. That is a checkable regulatory status rather than a brand assertion, which is more than most of this shelf offers.

No pH, no active concentrations beyond the complex, and no brand cited trial appears anywhere in the official material we could reach.

Forms: multiple, undisclosed Concentration disclosed: on PDRN only Fragrance-free: yes

How to actually choose

If you want to know what you are buying, the blanc doux toner and the Wellage ampoule are the two entries where a meaningful concentration is printed on the ingredient that carries the name.

If you want the best supported tolerance profile, the Torriden toner is the only product here with a published repeat insult patch test behind it, whatever the limits of that test.

If your skin is very dry, none of these six finishes the job. Every one of them is a humectant step with no occlusive, which means every one of them needs a cream after it. That is not a defect. It is the category.

And if you are choosing between two of these, the deciding factor is almost never the hyaluronate. It is the support cast: whether there is an enzyme, an acid, a ferment or a soothing agent alongside it, and whether that suits the thing your skin actually complains about.

Common questions

Does a higher form count hydrate better?

There is no evidence that it does, and the labels here show why the question is hard to even ask. A product can carry more forms and less total hyaluronate than one carrying fewer. Concentration and formulation decide the outcome, not variety.

Should I use a hyaluronic acid product on dry skin in winter?

Yes, but never as the last step. A humectant layer with nothing over it can leave skin feeling tighter in dry air, since the water it holds at the surface has nowhere to go but out. Put a cream on top and the same product behaves completely differently.

Toner or serum if I only want one?

Whichever gives you a comfortable amount of product for the price tier you are shopping in. Functionally the toner and serum versions here do the same job, and the serum is denser rather than stronger.

Are the clinical percentages on these boxes meaningful?

Mostly not, and we said which ones and why beside each product. The recurring problem is timing: a hydration figure measured immediately after application records a wet surface, and no measurement taken at that moment can tell you what happens two hours later.

If you have two of these in your basket and cannot decide, tell us what your skin does four hours after your current routine. That answer separates this list faster than any ingredient comparison.
