BANILACO Clean It Zero Calming Cleansing Balm

What is this product?

Banila Co's Clean It Zero Calming Cleansing Balm melts off makeup well, but the calming name is the part to question: five essential oils (eucalyptus, bergamot, rosemary, chamomile, galbanum) do the scenting, which is a lot of fragrance for skin you are trying to soothe. The 100mL jar lists 26 ingredients with water as early as position 7, so it really is a water-containing melting balm, while the calming side (centella, ectoin, guaiazulene, chamomile extracts and four centella actives) sits at the very tail with no amount given, and the brand does not publish a pH.

What makes it different?

Two things set it apart. It names every fragrance oil it uses one by one, with no generic 향료 entry among those 26, where both of its same-line siblings carry one instead. That openness is also its problem, because it is sold as 민감 피부를 위한 (for sensitive skin), and that is the sharpest gap between claim and formula here. On the plus side it carries the full centella active set, asiaticoside, asiatic acid, madecassoside and madecassic acid, not just the parent extract, though all four are printed at the very end at an undisclosed level.

What is in it?

The full ingredient list as the brand publishes it, in the printed order. Each name links to what we know about that ingredient.

This brand publishes its ingredient list in Korean only. Names below are the matching INCI names from the Korean Cosmetic Association ingredient dictionary.

Key ingredient

Ingredients with no mark are ones we found nothing notable about, and when marks overlap on one ingredient we show the caution first.

We could not place these in the list above: Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Chamomile Flower Oil, Galbanum (Ferula Galbaniflua) Resin Oil, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Olive Oil

Did the ad claims hold up?

We checked 4 lines this product advertises against the ingredient list and public documents. None of them hold up on their own. They are partly right at best.
