- Pairs well with
- An occlusive cream or balm layered on top when the skin is actually dry rather than only hot
- The water step immediately before it, applied while the skin is still damp
- Don't combine with
- Expecting it to substitute for a sunscreen after sun exposure
- Stacking it with a leave-on exfoliating acid in the same step on already reddened skin
