What is this product?

This is a genuinely scrubby wash, not a gentle one: six insoluble grits sit among its 22 ingredients, ahead of both the fragrance and the acids, so oily skin with rough texture will like it while sensitive skin, a damaged barrier or anyone avoiding scent should stay away. Both of the marketing lines overstate it, because the sebum melting that Ariul credits to the job's tears enzyme is really done by three mild surfactants and a salicylic acid derivative, and nothing on this label can be abrasive and gentle at the same time the way the second line promises.

What makes it different?

Most enzyme powders here carry one abrasive or none, and this one carries six: five milled grain and bean powders in a row plus a harder walnut shell. Its own name says scrub, which is the honest part of the label even though the two graded marketing lines beside it promise the opposite. The grain block has a lineage too, since mung bean and adzuki flour milled into a wash powder is essentially 조두, the Korean bean cleansing powder that predates synthetic detergents, rebuilt here on amino acid surfactants. It is also completely anhydrous, with no water among the 22 ingredients, which is why the enzyme survives on the shelf and why nothing in it is placed to leave skin comfortable after the rinse.
